About ILRI

The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) works to improve food and nutritional security and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe, and sustainable use of livestock. ILRI is one of 15 CGIAR research centers and the only one dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, ILRI has regional or country offices and projects across Africa and Asia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct literature reviews to identify evidence and influencing factors for policy strategies and programs.
  • Manage and engage in data analysis, interpreting and synthesizing complex research for policy development.
  • Engage with stakeholders and provide high-quality reporting to ILRI, CGIAR, and partners.
  • Lead planning, implementation, and coordination of research operations across centers and with partners.
  • Monitor national, regional, and global policy issues and brief ILRI staff accordingly.
  • Write reports and contribute to research outputs (publications, policy briefs, presentations).
  • Collaborate with Communication, Advocacy, and Knowledge Management (CAKM) to synthesize information.
  • Establish and maintain stakeholder relationships.
  • Contribute to resource mobilization and proposal development.
  • Publish in peer-reviewed journals and build stakeholder capacity.
  • Assist in budget development and financial resource management.

Academic and Professional Qualifications

Education:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Broad/specialized knowledge of methods, techniques, and processes.

Experience:

  • Six years of relevant work experience.

Skills:

  • Ability to work independently.
  • Experience engaging with stakeholders at various levels.
  • Data visualization skills.

Duty Station

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Terms of Appointment

  • Grade: HG 15
  • Minimum Base Salary: Birr 71,122 per month
  • Contract Type: National Staff (NS), initial 3-year appointment with possible renewal.

The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) works for better lives through livestock in developing countries. ILRI is co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, has 14 offices across Asia and Africa, employs some 700 staff and has an annual operating budget of about USD 80 million.

ILRI is a CGIAR research centre, a global research partnership for a food-secure future. CGIAR science is dedicated to reducing poverty, enhancing food and nutrition security, and improving natural resources and ecosystem services. Its research is carried out by 15 CGIAR centres in close collaboration with hundreds of partners, including national and regional research institutes, civil society organizations, academia, development organizations and the private sector.

Peter Doherty, a former member of the ILRI Board of Trustees and co-winner of the 1996 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine, serves as ILRI’s patron.
